Jeanette is a new senior at Greyford High. Andrew has been the school’s popular mean guy for years. Both have extremely intense backgrounds and walls up. Neither is willing to show the world their true selves. At first they hate each other, refusing to get along. But slowly they start hooking up in secret, which leads to friendship and an eventual relationship. Jeanette struggles with things that have happened in her past and has shut down from the world as much as she can while, hopefully, not alerting those around her that she has. Andrew has possibly even more walls up and a front that he shows the world, never letting anyone in.
I really loved both Jeanette and Andrew even though I didn’t always agree with how they were handling certain situations. However, I also feel there is a lot of leeway in that aspect due to the ages of the characters. This book is a journey of self discovery and asking for help when it is needed the most. I totally felt for both of these characters so thoroughly. There were times that both broke my heart and I wanted to just give them the love they both so deserved. At one point they each have to try working through their stuff on their own, and I highly appreciated that aspect of this book as well. The story flowed well and I look forward to reading more from this author.
